Schedule for the Ecology Club
Simply discuss the projects MSOE is involved with and see if anyone would be interested in following up with it. Here is the list of activities that MSOE is doing.
Porous Pavement - Contact Willie Gonwa (he is a professor at MSOE) and see if he still wants us to do any tests on our new parking lots.
Recycling Program - MSOE has a poor recycling program here on campus. Not enough recycling and very poor placement of the recycling bins. The Ecology Club has walked around each trash and recycling bin and dug through it to analyze to see how much students recycle here on campus. The results were poor and the club concluded that a big reason for this is because of lack of recycling receptacles and poor placement. the Ecology Club has taken this subject very seriously and has contacted Facilities to let them know of this problem. Another organization LSO is also interested in creating a push to make our recycling program much better. The club should push early here this year and find out what is happened since the last time the club has met with the facilities group.
Van Certification - we need someone to get van certified so we can use a van for when we go on camping trips/volunteering/etc.
Recycling Reminder Emails/postings - If possible, it is always nice to shoot out an email reminding students about recycling. Whoever does this job could also put up the "what is good for recycling" posting that was on every dorm floor last year.
Ecology Club Cups - this is a fundraiser for the club. It promotes using these cups instead of throwing away the Styrofoam cups (after one use) from Roscoe's, skylight, and in the Kern Center. Refills when using these cups only costs like $.39 instead paying full price when you use the Styrofoam cup. The only thing that we really need to do about this is approach SGA for a loan to get the cups that we picked out last year. I feel this is very important.
Adopt a River - all we need to do is divide up the rivers of Milwaukee into sections and then label the amount of garbage that is at that location. Milwaukee River is complete. Then we will bring in the Cheryl Nenn from friends of Milwaukee's rivers and the other guy from walleyes for tomorrow. A reason to get outside and get some fresh air as well as understand more about Milwaukee county
Trail Building - not sure about this one but I am thinking about the time when the guy from the International Mountain Biking Association came in and talked about the trails and how bad they are along the Milwaukee river. If you remember anything from this please remind me. Next meeting: TBD Planned Activities: Recycling Program meeting, TBD
